OMG!!! French Double manual harpsichord by William Post Ross (Boston) after 1769 Taskin. Compass is FF to g''' (63 notes), disposition -- um, we're not sure yet, but probably 2 x 8'plus 1 x 4' with buff. Can't see the jacks clearly, but they appear to be Hubbard white Delrin and look chunky, so may be the older style. For sure Flemish papers in keywell and soundboard surround, we can see them in the photo, and probably also on lid and soundboard surround. Reverse keyboard with ebony naturals and bone-slipped blackwood sharps. We haven't seen this instrument in person and have only this one photo so we have *no* idea about details. Has not been played for a while and is *very* dusty. A few notes are not playing A couple of strings are broken and maybe a plectrum or two. We'll find out more about it and get back to you ASAP. This instrument was built by Matthew Redsell and was his personal instrument for ?? years before he sold it to the current owner. Although the instrument was completely playable and probably moreso than most, he never actually completed it for sale.

The soundboard rose was not installed [below] and he did not put his name on the nameboard [right]. The owner has documents and correspondence which establish provenance which will be included with the instrument.

The keywell is papered in Flemish 'seahorse' design papers, the lid in tan Flemish ashgrain paper and the trim and soundboard surround in a traditional Flemish border design.
