QUEEN CHARLOTTE'S BIRTHDAY BALL: » « Entertaining in the Canadas in the 18th & 19th centuries » « Participate in a day-long celebration of music, food and dance beginning with a symposium focusing on entertaining in the Georgian Era and culminating in a lavish period banquet and ball in costume, all at Historic Fort York in Toronto

• Fifth annual -- Saturday, January 14, 2006 -- Entertaining in the Canadas in the late 18th and early 19th centuries always included a ball in January to celebrate Queen Charlotte's Birthday. We continue the tradition here in Toronto with an afternoon of dance workshops and illustrated presentations, followed by a buffet supper and evening ball -- costumes admired but not required. If you missed Queen Charlotte's Birthday Ball last year, make a note for this year so you don't miss it again! This year's programme includes an illustrated presentation on the Garrison Theatre by Dr. Leslie O’Dell, associate professor at Wilfred Laurier University, and (yes!) a port-tasting! During the buffet will be a Theatrical Presentation -- Gentle Reader, your correspondent can scarcely contain herself! More info coming soon...

• Fourth annual -- Saturday, January 15, 2005 -- Elegant as usual, this year a tea-tasting with a tea buyer -- yes, there are still such people. Tea buyers can sample over 1,000 lots of tea in a day, the method is -- well, noisier than you'd expect. Further reports and photos coming one of these days...
  
• Third annual -- Saturday, January 17, 2004 -- Participants included Jessica Warner, author of Craze. Gin and Debauchery in an Age of Reason; archaeologist David Spittal, dance workshops lead by Dancing Mistress Melanie Garrison and of course, the Ball with live music by Captain Ken and the cHarlottes. Ladies and gentlemen, we have photos!!
  
• Second annual -- Saturday, January 18, 2003 -- The festivities included the Symposium on Georgian Entertaining featuring How to Make a Trifle, dance instruction, period banquet, and an elegant ball with live period music. Photos not developed yet, but see below for a look at some of the fun we had last year.
  
• First annual -- Saturday, January 26, 2002 -- symposium, food, music, dance, photos! A most agreeable time was had by all!
  
• Reference and Resources -- being a compendium of information and links concerning Her Majesty Queen Charlotte, contra-dancing, Regency food, drink and clothing, and other topics of interest and usefulness to the aspiring Queen Charlotte's Birthday Ball-goer.
